Detox Science

Your organs of elimination include

The  digestive system, kidney, lung ,skin and liver. Each plays an important role in cleansing your body from the vast number of waste products produced inside the body from metabolic systems and the “ toxins and chemicals” in our environment. Our modern day lifestyle and environment make regular “ detox programs” an important part of any wellness program.

The Digestive System

Your nutrient resources to detoxify the body come from the digestive system.  If you don’t have a balanced diet high in b vitamins, proteins and antioxidants the liver is unable to perform it’s job optimally.  Health conditions such as allergies, sensitivities or digestive conditions ( such as candida, celiac, colitis, chron’s or Leaky Bowl Syndrome). Fiber also plays an integral part of “brushing and sweeping” out toxins. Supporting gut integrity also limits that amount of toxins that pass into the bloodstream.

The Kidney

The kidney filters waste and promotes elimination though urine.

The Lungs

The lungs also assist elimination of  toxins that we come in contact with.

The Skin

Skin conditons such as eczema, psoriasis , hives and rashes reflect interal systems that are not balanced.

The Liver

Did You Know?  That the liver is one of the most important organs in the body and that it has multiple roles such as detoxification and the conjugation of hormones.
The liver performs a series of enzymatic reactions to neutralize toxic compounds that have been absorbed, including air pollutants, food additives, hormones, pesticides, heavy metals, medications, antibiotics and alcohol. It also synthesizes and secretes bile, which binds to fat soluble toxins in the intestines so that they may be removed from the body.
There are two main phases of detoxification in the liver: Phase I Cytochrome P450 and Phase II.

The nutrients required for optimal function of Phase I are:

  • • B Vitamins
    • Folic Acid
    • Glutathione
    • Antioxidants ( Milk Thistle, Carotenoids, Vitamin C, E)

The nutrients required for optimal function of Phase II are:

  • • Amino Acids (Glutamine ,Glycine, Taurine , Cysteine)
    • Sulphurated Phytochemicals ( Garlic, Cruciferous Vegetables)

If one is not taking in sufficient of the above nutrients OR the body is not absorbing the nutrients required due to allergies, sensitivities or digestive conditions ( such as candida, celiac, colitis, chron’s or Leaky Bowl Syndrome) then a greater number of free radicals are produced due to inefficient Phase I and Phase II detox pathways.

Ultimately free radicals may increase our risk of cancer formation.
Because the liver’s roles is also to conjugate and breakdown hormones to be recycled from their cholesterol backbone, if it is “ over strained “ by working on detoxification pathways it’s ability to work on the delicate rebalancing of hormones is reduced. This inefficiency contributes further to hormonal imbalance potentially estrogen dominance in women and increased cancer risk further.

More liver science.

Regular medically supervised detoxification is recommended to ensure all body systems are working at their optimum.
