To get us started, what fruit can help reduce dark spots on your skin and make your holiday drinks and deserts refreshing?    You guessed it Limes!

1. SHINE WITH LIME!

Did you know that lime juice and peel can be used to reduce age spots caused by increased melanin thanks to its natural bleaching and skin lightening properties?  Lime peel has the ability to reduce melanin production. Just apply lime juice with a cotton ball to the darkened parts of your skin and leave it on for 30 minutes. You can also add some lime peel to a face mask to shine even more!

Got blemishes right before that party you need to go to? Not to worry I’ve got that covered too! Lime juice with honey can also be used for blemishes. Acne, pimples and blemishes are caused when dirt, oil and dead skin cells clog your pores. This allows bacteria to get trapped in facial pores causing inflammation, redness and soreness. Thanks to the antimicrobial properties of lime juice your blemishes can be reduced and or prevented. Simply make a facial scrub of lime juice, local honey and oatmeal flakes (gluten free for those who are gluten intolerant/allergic) and use weekly. Both the lime juice and honey will keep the area clean while the acidic nature of the lime juice will help control excess oil. This facial cleanser can also help to reduce scaring that might be caused by the blemishes.

For a delicious appetizer sprinkle organic lime zest on any of your appetizers just before serving and try Power Foods 101 *Potato Stacks with Lime Avocado Dip!

2. ICE IS NICE!

When enjoying your holiday cocktails remember that your liver can metabolize one alcoholic drink per hour. So to help your body out add ice to your drinks to keep them cool and to reduce the total amount of alcohol you drink. Also remember to Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate! by drinking filtered water before your festive events and enjoy a glass hourly as well. Your skin and body will thank you in the morning!

3. EAT WHITE TO BE LIGHT

Enjoy the white side of the holidays to be lean! When enjoying your holiday turkey keep in mind that the dark meat has about twice the fat of turkey breast and about 40 % more calories. Another white beauty is cauliflower! Cauliflower rice can replace your grains and it can also double as cauliflower mashed not-potatoes! Just pulse cauliflower in your food processor to make rice and prepare it just like mashed potatoes switching up the milk for almond milk, butter for extra virgin coconut oil (EVCO) and salt for sea salt for the Power Foods 101 version! Yum!

4. SKINNY STUFFING

What holiday meal would be the same without stuffing? To lighten up and make the Power Foods 101 Skinny Stuffing simply sauté celery and leeks and other minced veggies of choice (carrots, bell peppers, water chestnuts) in ¼ cup of vegetable stock (low sodium & gluten free). Add cooked quinoa or cubed Power Foods 101 Nature’s Bread, moisten with more vegetable stock and your favourite herbs before baking.

5. AWESOME 1 MINUTE AIOLI

I love dips, drizzles and delicious sauces to enhance any meal. Try the Power Foods 101 Awesome  Minute Aioli! Just toss ½ cup slivered almonds, 2 garlic cloves, 4 Tbsp. of lemon juice, 1 Tbsp. of stone ground mustard and ¼ cup+ of water in a blender and whirl away! Voila a lemony aioli to enjoy with any of your holiday meals … Think…veggies, fish, turkey, or breakfast eggs & avocado!

6. QUICKY CRANBERRY SAUCE

Here’s another holiday delectable sauce for you! Simply add 3 cups of cranberries (frozen or fresh), juice of ½ a lemon, 6 drops of stevia or other natural sweetener of choice to taste and 3 tablespoons of chia seeds to a food processor. Pulse until mixed well (you can make is smooth or I like it chunky with bits of fruit still there). That’s it ready to serve!

7. NATURAL COLOURS

Instead of using store bought food colouring look at what nature has given us! For anything pink just use some beets, green use Matcha green tea powder (whole leaf power ground up that you can find at your health food store), orange use turmeric powder and blue blueberries!
