Medical Thermography in Ottawa
If you want to take a “snap shot” of the body to compliment traditional medical testing to complete your preventive optimal health plan, consider thermography testing.
What is Medical Thermography?
Thermography is a painless, non-invasive, state of the art clinical test, using an infrared camera to measure heat patterns and blood flow in body tissues without any exposure to radiation. The camera gauges body tissue heat energy that is then reflected on a high-speed computer for imaging. Generally, problem areas show high heat temperatures due to increased blood flow and increased metabolic activity. Unlike more familiar medical tests such as X-ray, mammogram or ultrasound, and MRI, which are tests of anatomy or structure, thermography is a test of physiology. It is a safe scanning method for the body including breast health, pain & inflammation and cardiovascular risk. The test utilizes the latest imaging equipment and trained medical doctors to report on the images.
Medical Digital infrared thermal imaging (DITI) has been used extensively in human medicine in the USA, Europe and Asia for the past 20 years. Until now, cumbersome equipment has hampered its diagnostic and economic viability. Current state of the art PC based IR technology designed specifically for clinical application has changed all this.

Is This Test Right for Me?
This test may be right for you if you would like to overview the body. Thermal changes are often the earliest sign of vascular disease; muscular, neural and skeletal systems; immune dysfunction, and systemic inflammation.
How is an imbalance in Nutrients treated?
Your Revivelife clinician will review all findings and create a personalized plan for you based on what are the root causes of the Medical Thermography Imbalances. The use of tailored nutrition, essential oils therapeutically, acupuncture or other integrative therapies are often advised. Additional testing including hormones and Organic Acid Test (test that assesses Microbiome, detox pathways, select nutrients and neurotransmitters may be considered to further investigate the potential causes of thermography imbalance. Referral for mammogram, ultrasounds or other traditional medical testing are recommended where applicable.
We recommend a New Patient Visit for the most comprehensive approach to your health or a Pre-Lab Visit for a quick snapshot before lab testing and a Post-Lab consult which is included in the thermography testing to review your results and receive your tailored health plan.

Medical Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging (DITI or Thermography)
DITI is an assessment technique that converts infrared radiation (heat) emitted from the skin surface into electrical impulses that are visualized in colour. The spectrum of colors indicate an increase or decrease in the amount of infrared radiation being emitted from the body surface to graphically map the body temperature and is referred to as a thermogram. The spectrum of colours indicate an increase or decrease in the amount of infrared radiation being emitted from the body surface. Since there is a high degree of thermal symmetry in the normal body, subtle abnormal temperature asymmetry’s can be easily identified. It is used in conjunction with other laboratory findings to assist your practitioner in formulating a health care plan. Thermography has been used extensively in human medicine for the past 20 years.

- Genetic Link
- Poor Diet – standard American diet, which is low in fibre and high in sugar and saturated fats
- Dental Concerns
- Excess Alcohol
- Food Hypersensitivities – Intolerances, Sensitivities IgG and or Allergies IgE
- Digestive Imbalance – Low Stomach Acid, SIBO, Leaky Bowel, Colitis, Chron’s, IBS, Celiac

Is Medical Thermography covered by insurance?
Medical Thermography scan images are interpreted by physicians trained by the American College of Clinical Thermography. Thermography may be covered through an Extended Benefit Plan, with the testing sometimes referred to as “Other Diagnostics”. Thermography reports are interpreted by medical doctors and may be eligible medical expense on your annual tax return. Naturopathic consultations are often covered by extended benefit plans. Please check with your insurance provider for the details, as easy policy varies.
Do I need a referral from my health care provider?
No, you do not need a referral to have a thermography scan done. Simply book an appointment.

Medical Thermography- Patient Preparation
Before you arrive for your thermographic examination, certain protocols must be followed in order to ensure that your images reflect accurate information.
Step 1 – Patient Preparation
- You must wait at least three (3) months after breast surgery, allopathic cancer treatment (the completion of chemotherapy or radiation), post-operative, pregnant or nursing mothers before a thermography examination.
- Cosmetic treatments (i.e. botox, laser, fillers etc.) or tattoos to body areas being imaged must wait 3 months post final application.
- You must wait 7 (days) if you have received any dye injected imaging before a thermography examination.
- Please avoid any natural or artificial tanning of your chest for seven (7) days prior to the study date.
- You must not have had significant fevers within thirty-six (36) hours of the examination.
- Please avoid any clinical physical stimulation (chiropractic, acupuncture, TENS, physical therapy, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound or massage, mammogram), examination or compression of the breasts or body to be examined (self or clinical examination) for at least 3 days prior to the examination.
- It is recommended to refrain from a sauna, steam-room or hot/cold packs in contact with the breasts or body for at least twenty-four (24) hours prior to the examination.
- You must wait twenty-four (24) hours after receiving IV treatment.
- Do not shave your underarms or use any skin creams, lotions, deodorants or powders on your breasts or underarms on the study day.
- No exercise or physical stimulation of the areas to be imaged 4 hours prior to the exam.
- No eating or drinking caffeine, use of tobacco or alcohol, hot or cold beverages for two (2) hours before the exam.
- Please refrain from bathing or showering for one hour prior to examination.
- If you are exposed to outside environmental extremes, such as very cold or warm temperatures, you should acclimate in a comfortable room temperature for approximately thirty (30) minutes
- You may wear any necklaces with or without pendants unless they are so long as to touch the breasts or extend to the level of the cleavage. In fact, necklaces and pendants can be an asset to the technician as they may serve as an aid to obtaining a sharp focus.
- Continue to take any required prescription medication unless directed by your physician.
Step 2 – Medical Thermography Test
Please note: During the examination you will be disrobed and gowned during part of the examination for both imaging and to allow for the surface temperature of the body to equilibrate with the room. (From the waist up for breast exams, and fully for full body scan, except underwear. The buttocks will be exposed so please wear thong or brief type.) No jewelry and hair will be tied back away from the face and neck. A female technician is provided for all female patients.
