POWER FOODS TO MAKE WITH WHAT’S ON HAND

As I take this time to sift through what I have and what I need to get for fresh produce for the next week. I’d like to share some of my favourite recipes that use a combination of what you have and continue to try a few new recipes each week.

Nourishing food is sometimes hard to find time for. Now with more time at home. Enjoy recipes that use things right from your pantry and create a menu plan that you can use for busier times. Get cooking with these 6 nourishing and immune enhancing power recipes!

 

 

Recipe 1 – Pot of Gold Latte

 

Power Foods: Curcumin

This Power Food Latte is rich in turmeric that is a wellness wonder. Turmeric is the spice that gives curry its yellow colour and has been used in India for thousands of years as a spice and medicinal herb. Turmeric contains compounds called curcuminoids, the most important of which is curcumin. Curcumin has powerful anti-inflammatory effects, is an antioxidant and helps to increase brain-derived-neurotropic factor (BDNF) which promotes cognition and brain health. So enjoy and be well! Recipe 2 – Roasted Mushroom Immune Soup

Mushrooms are rich in beta glucan which help to activate your macrophages that act like your packmen, gobbling up those nasty bugs, reducing inflammation and keeping you healthy! Recipe 3 – Zen Buddha Bowl

I recommend taking a few minutes to meditate before every meal, to promote your body`s release of digestive enzymes and optimal digestion. Add sprouts to boost up your digestive powers. Buddhist`s are also known to eat their meals in quite reflection… so take time to relax and find your Zen. The great news is that Buddha bowls can be made with anything you have in your refrigerator! Recipe 4 – Baked Crispy Chicken…Encrusted with Hemp Seeds!

Crispy Chicken never had it so good! Hemp seeds are the protein power house in these babies! Both kids young and older will love these! Hemp seeds have an excellent 3:1 ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids which reduces inflammation and promotes a healthy heart. Recipe 5 – 5 Ingredient Oatmeal Banana Cookies

Bananas are nature’s fibre rich sweetener! . Not only that but they are high in potassium, pectin (a type of fibre), Vitamins B6 & C and magnesium.
