If your life is impacted by your emotions, counselling is recommended to help you gain clarity on an issue, change old patterns, untangle complex personal issues, or embark on a journey of self-development.
In your initial visit your integrative health professional will listen to your emotional concerns and review all aspects of your health that may be related including, stressors, nutrients, hormones and neurotransmitters. At the end of this session you will be provided with initial strategies which may include further advanced lab testing. Thereafter your visits are tailored to you. Naturopathic doctors are trained in lifestyle therapies. Working with a counselor, psychotherapist, and other health professional experts is also recommended.
Integrative counselling may be covered by your extended health care insurance provider under the designated practitioner that you receive your treatment by i.e. naturopathic doctor. In some cases, injuries sustained while on the job or in a motor vehicle accident may be covered for integrative counselling under worker’s compensation or automobile insurance policies.
Most sessions with individuals are 30-60 minutes long.
The number of treatments required and reassessment visits vary depending on the severity and duration of the symptoms to be addressed. A common frequency is one treatment per week for three weeks then reduced to once a month maintenance.
