DETOX & TOXINS TESTING

Slide
DETOX 1
HEPATIC DETOX URINE TEST

This test evaluates liver function and detoxification pathways. The liver has 3 main steps in detoxing: phase I cytochrome P450 requiring B vitamins, phase II requiring amino acids an d phase III transport. Urinary D-glucaric acid, a byproduct of Phase I detoxification, is an indicator of chemical exposure to over 200 chemicals. Urinary mercapturic acids are excreted end products of Phase II detoxification representing xenobiotic exposure.
_____________________
Especially important for those who have a history of chemical sensitivity, are using detoxification therapy, and liver detoxification function. The test does not replace comprehensive liver tests for cases of advanced liver disease.

The body has many mechanisms for eliminating potentially harmful compounds including xenobiotics (foreign chemicals) and unnecessary endobiotic (endogenously produced chemicals). Excess hormones, environmental toxins, and medications are all cleared from the body via the same enzymatic detoxification systems.  Metabolic detoxification may be impaired and exposure to toxic elements with deficiencies in key minerals may all contribute to chronic disease. Testing helps to evaluate your specific concerns leading to targeted therapies.

The most common signs and symptoms of toxicity include:

Bad Breath
Chronic Disease: Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Amyotrophic Lacteroclerosis (ALS), Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)
Cognitive Problems: brain fog, difficulty concentrating, memory lapses, headaches, ADD, ADHD,
Digestive Imbalances: constipation, diarrhea, excess gas, bloating, foul-smelling stools
Fatigue: chronic fatigue syndrome
Hormonal Imbalances: PMS, menstrual concerns, low body temperature, depression, anxiety, fertility concerns, mood swings
Infectious & Immune: asthma, autoimmune disorders, cancer, Lyme
Joint and Muscle Soreness or Pain: slow recovery, arthritis, gout
Mood Disorders: anorexia nervosa, anxiety, depression, OCD
Neurological & Movement: apraxia (motor disorder), cerebral palsy, epilepsy, seizure disorders, MS, peripheral neuropathy, tic disorders
Skin Concerns: acne, eczema, rashes, psoriasis, puffy or dark rings around the eyes

The principal risks of developing toxicity include:

Age
Chronic Inflammation
Excess Exposure: alcohol, chemicals, drugs,  medications, mercury dental fillings, excess consumption of fish at risk of heavy metal exposure
Genetic Link
Hormone Imbalance
Infectious Agents or Diseases
Low Nutrients
Microbiome Imbalance
Obesity
Poor Lifestyle – Diet, Lack of Sleep, Stress, Smoking

Tests for dentists or dental hygienists to consider include:

Toxins 1 – Heavy Metals And Mineral Hair & Minerals Test
Toxins 2 – Heavy Metals & Nutrients Toxic & Essentials Elements Urine Test
Toxins 4 – Chemical Immune Reactivity Screen – Cyrex Array 11
Toxins 6 – Tri – Mercury Plus Blood Metals Test

Note- Any type of tissue sample unprovoked for toxic elements is simply a screen for recent or ongoing exposure.

Hair – 2-3 months
Blood – 60-120 days for most elements
Urine – 1-2 weeks

If you have not been exposed to the toxicant within the timeframe, you are unlikely to see evidence of toxic element exposure.  No screening test can give an estimate of net retentions (bioaccumulation or “body burden”), an or estimate of net retention.

Most of the advanced detoxification and toxicity testing is not ordered by your General Practitioner under OHIP-based services on routine screening tests. Our goal is to assess your health by evaluating high-risk factors and then work on prevention.

Third-party insurance companies may cover all or a portion of your consultations. Most other integrative testing is not currently covered by private insurance companies. Please check with your provider for details and how to submit claims.

Your Revivelife clinician will review all findings and create a tailored plan for you based on what are the root causes of your toxicity imbalances. The use of tailored meal plans, nutrients, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals (oral or IV), herbs, probiotics, prebiotics, stress management, and or acupuncture that promote healing is often advised. One treatment strategy may involve the use of Sulforaphane-rich foods or supplements. Sulforaphane, an isothiocyanate found in broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables, is among the most potent natural inducers of phase II detoxification enzymes. Another may include Calcium D-glucarate which when activated in the gut acts as an inhibitor of beta-glucuronidase, an enzyme produced by colonic bacteria and intestinal cells associated with increased cancer risk. 1,2

We recommend a New Patient Visit for the most comprehensive approach to your health or a Pre-Lab Visit for a quick snapshot before lab testing and a Post-Lab consult to review your results and receive your tailored health plan.
